CV4DC 2026 Call for Challenge Problems

This year CV4DC will not host a benchmark challenge. Instead, we invite challenge problems: real, unsolved computer vision problems from developing countries that do not yet have a public benchmark.

We invite 2–4 page proposals that each describe one such problem: what the problem is, who it affects, what data exists and under what license, the deployment constraints, why current methods do not solve it, and what is blocking a benchmark today.

What to Submit

Each proposal must follow the template and include all six sections:

1. Problem: what a vision system should see, measure or decide, with a concrete input and the desired output.
2. Who it affects: the communities, institutions or users involved, at what scale, and what changes if the problem is solved.
3. Data: what images or video exist or could be collected, who holds them, and under what license or access terms.
4. Deployment constraints: where and on what a solution would run (hardware, connectivity, cost).
5. Why it is unsolved: what current methods or datasets do, and where they fail.
6. Blocker: the one or two most important pieces missing for a public benchmark.

It is fine if the data or the deployment setting is not decided yet: describe what exists, what could be collected, and the setting you expect.

• Length: 2–4 pages, excluding references.
• Review is single-blind: include author names and affiliations.
• Do not rename or reorder the section headings, and do not include personal or identifiable data (faces, patient records, exact locations of vulnerable people).
• Proposals are non-archival.

At the Workshop

Accepted proposals will be presented as a 5-minute lightning pitch at the Open Problems session on December 14, 2026, following the structure problem → data → constraint → blocker, followed by a discussion.

The submission form asks whether an author plans to attend in person. If no author can attend, a pre-recorded video pitch is fine.

Outcome

Accepted proposals will be combined into a co-authored arXiv report, “Open Problems in Computer Vision for Developing Countries: CV4DC 2026”, with one section per proposal.

We will not select a problem to follow up. Anyone is welcome to build a 2027 challenge from the problems in the report.
